Health Services Executive
The Health Services Executive (HSE) employs 93,000 people many from a diverse range of backgrounds. The main thrust of the HSE’s Equal Opportunities/Diversity Strategy is to “ensure equal opportunities and to accommodate diversity in the workplace.” All employees regardless of their background are offered equal opportunity in employment and are encouraged to fulfil their potential. The HSE also has a Dignity at Work policy which highlights the need for all members of staff to be treated with respect and dignity and aims to protect employees from communities of interest from harassment, bullying etc by other employees, visitors etc.
The success of the HSE’s diversity strategy is largely down to a commitment from senior management, line managers and staff and trade unions. Diversity is promoted in the organisation and training is also provided to relevant staff. Managers are aware of their responsibility to recognise difference in the workplace and accommodate the needs of a diverse workforce.
Employer benefits include; staff retention, flexible working environment, access to a wide pool of talent and good organisational reputation as an employer.
