ReachOut
The aim of ReachOut is to:
- Effect labour market entry of those with a history of custody;
- To impact on mainstream policy;
- To influence policy makers in the targeting of resources; and
- A further aim is to build a ‘second stage’ employability model by constructing an interface between the employability measures pioneered by the PPS project (EQUAL Call 1) currently mainstreamed by the NI Prison Service and the needs of employers with ‘hard to fill’ vacancies.
As employers’ attitudes to the beneficiary group are potentially discriminatory the programme will work with Business in the Community and other employer groupings to engage employers in customised training which reduces the full range of barriers within the demand side of the labour market and ensures the fullest realisation of equal opportunities and social inclusion.
Furthermore the DP will develop and deliver a peer mentoring scheme that will build on beneficiaries own experience of ‘coming through the gate’ and offer them a real opportunity to give something back to society through the support of project beneficiaries.
