- The following acts make it unlawful to discriminate on the grounds of race, colour, national or ethnic origin, sex, and disability.
- Racial Discrimination Act 1975
- Sex Discrimination Act 1984
- Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Act 1986
- Disability Discrimination Act 1992
- Age Discrimination Act 2004 – This is the most recent addition to Australia’s federal anti-discrimination laws and is aimed at to combating, discrimination against people on the grounds of age in the areas of work, education, access to premises, provision of goods, services and facilities, accommodation.
- In New South Wales the Anti-discrimination Act 1997, also covers discrimination on the grounds of sex, sexual preference, marital status, race, physical and intellectual disability, and age. Vilification of people on the grounds of homosexuality or their HIV or AIDS status is prohibited by recent amendments to the Anti-Discrimination Act.
